Stellantis Issues Major Recall for 72,000 Cars in the UK Due to Fire Risk
Stellantis has announced a significant recall affecting 72,000 vehicles in the UK as part of a larger Europe-wide initiative. This precautionary measure addresses a critical issue where loose nuts on a fuel pipe may result in engine fires.
Affected Models
The recall encompasses 28 different models from seven prominent brands under the Stellantis umbrella. These include:
- Alfa Romeo
- Citroen
- DS
- Fiat
- Jeep
- Peugeot
- Vauxhall
- Lancia (in mainland Europe)
The affected vehicles, all equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, were manufactured between 2023 and 2025. In France alone, there have been 11 reported incidents of cars catching fire, prompting this urgent recall.
What You Need to Know
Stellantis is actively reaching out to vehicle owners and is encouraging them to schedule an appointment at their local dealership for necessary repairs. This work is expected to take approximately 30 minutes and will be performed at no cost to the owner.
Safety Precautions for Drivers
Owners are advised to remain vigilant for any of the following warning signs that could indicate a problem:
- Unpleasant fuel odors
- Dashboard warning lights
In a statement, Stellantis emphasized, “Our standard recall process is being applied, and we are promptly informing all owners about this matter. We urge our customers to make an appointment at their dealership immediately.”
Potential Risks
“Vehicles with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine may experience fuel leaks at the high-pressure pipe connecting the high-pressure pump to the fuel rail due to loosened nuts,” the statement continued. “This could lead to increased fuel consumption and, in severe cases, engine fires.”
Previous Recalls
This announcement marks Stellantis's second recall this summer. Earlier, 120,000 Citroen owners were alerted regarding safety concerns with their C3 and DS3 models due to a potentially lethal airbag fault identified after a tragic accident in France.
By staying informed and proactive, vehicle owners can help ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
