Fiat Introduces Discounts Ahead of New Electric Car Grant

Fiat Introduces Discounts Ahead of New Electric Car Grant
The recent announcement of the new Electric Car Grant (ECG) has prompted several car manufacturers, including Fiat, to launch their own discounts on electric vehicles (EVs) to entice buyers ahead of the program's implementation.
What is the Electric Car Grant?
The Electric Car Grant, revealed last month, is designed to invigorate EV sales in the UK. The ECG offers a discount of either £1,500 or £3,750 on qualifying electric vehicles, depending on their environmental performance. This initiative comes after previous stagnation in the EV market following the discontinuation of the Plug-in Car Grant in 2022.
Discount Details
To be eligible for the ECG, manufacturers must meet rigorous emissions targets that are grounded in scientific research. Additionally, each specific model must be priced below £37,000 in its entry-level trim. The discount amount awarded to a vehicle will be based on its CO2 emissions during production, taking into account the resources used in both vehicle assembly and battery manufacturing. However, the exact threshold levels for these emissions have yet to be disclosed.
Due to these criteria, it’s expected that vehicles manufactured in regions such as China, South Korea, and Japan may not qualify for this grant. This includes brands like Hyundai, MG, and GWM, all of which have proactively introduced their own discount programs in anticipation of not being included in the ECG.
