Six Citroën Models Eligible for £1,500 Electric Car Grant

Discover which six Citroën electric vehicles in the UK qualify for the new £1,500 grant, making eco-friendly driving more accessible.

Six Citroën Models Eligible for £1,500 Electric Car Grant

The UK government has unveiled a new Electric Car Grant, automatically applied to the sale price of qualifying electric vehicles (EVs). Among the models benefitting from this grant are six exciting offerings from Citroën.

Eligible Citroën Models

The following six models from Citroën are approved for the £1,500 grant, making them more affordable options for environmentally-conscious drivers:

  • ë-C3
  • ë-C3 Aircross
  • ë-C4
  • ë-C4 X
  • ë-Berlingo
  • ë-C5 Aircross

With the grant, the starting price of the ë-C3 drops to £20,595, which positions it competitively against rivals such as Fiat's Grande Panda Elettrica (£21,035) and BYD's Dolphin Surf (£21,950, for the larger battery version). Only a few models, like the smaller-battery Dolphin Surf Active (£18,650) and Hyundai Inster (£19,755), offer lower entry prices for new electric vehicles in the UK. However, the Leapmotor T03 is the most affordable entry point at £14,495 but falls short in range.

Here's a quick look at the starting prices for the other eligible models:

  • ë-C3 Aircross: £21,595
  • ë-C4: £26,150
  • ë-C4 X: £27,215
  • ë-Berlingo: £29,740
  • ë-C5 Aircross: £32,565

Automatic Application of the Grant

Unlike the previous Plug-in Car Grant, buyers do not need to apply separately for the £1,500 reduction. This grant amount will be automatically deducted from the sale price of the eligible EVs, providing a seamless purchasing experience for consumers.

Government Support for Electric Vehicles

The UK government has committed £650 million in taxpayer funding to support this initiative. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander emphasized that this summer's rollout aims to make electric car ownership cheaper and more accessible for many UK residents.

Manufacturer Compliance

To qualify for the grant, manufacturers must adhere to stringent emissions targets. Additionally, eligible models must maintain a starting price below £37,000 in basic trims. The grant amount (either £1,500 or £3,750) will depend on the vehicle's environmental impact, including the CO2 emissions produced during its manufacturing and battery assembly.

As more details about other eligible models come to light in the days ahead, consumers can look forward to increased options in the growing electric vehicle market. Citroën's managing director, Greg Taylor, expressed the company's commitment to this environmental initiative and their pride in being among the first to have their electric models eligible for the grant.
